Email Marketing
Email marketing that converts.
We know email can feel invasive, so we write campaigns that actually sound like a human wrote them. Subject lines that get opened. Copy that respects the reader's time.

Our approach
Email marketing
Sproutbox is a Portland-based email marketing agency. We handle strategy, design, copywriting, automation, and list management, so you can stop worrying about whether your emails are actually doing anything. Most of our email clients also work with us on advertising or brand to keep every customer touchpoint consistent.
Email has the ability to outperform other channels on ROI, but only when the list is healthy and the content is worth opening. Most accounts we inherit have bloated lists with low engagement, which tanks deliverability and makes everything else harder. A consumer food brand we manage saw click rates climb 50% within a few months of list cleanup, resegmentation, and switching from broadcast blasts to behavior-triggered flows.
Our Process
How we get email marketing results.
We start with a full audit of your current email program: platform setup, list health, deliverability metrics, existing automations, and historical performance. Most accounts have at least a few things that need immediate attention. A bloated list, a broken welcome sequence, or a deliverability issue that's been quietly hurting open rates for months. We document what's there, flag what needs fixing, and come back with a 90-day plan.
Email that sounds like your brand performs better than email that sounds like everyone else's. We spend time understanding your voice: how your best salespeople talk about your product, how customers describe the value they get, what the right tone is for the relationship you're building. If you don't have a defined brand voice yet, we help you develop one.
Campaigns go out on a schedule that makes sense for your audience. Not a frequency that burns out your list. We write the copy, design the templates, build the automations, set up the segmentation, and test everything before it sends. Every email has one clear goal. Simple, focused emails consistently outperform complex ones.
Every send is a data point. We track open rates, click rates, conversions, and unsubscribes, and use that data to improve the next one. We test subject lines, send times, and content formats on a rolling basis. The emails that consistently perform become the model for what comes next. The ones that don't get rebuilt or cut.
Our Team
Meet your email marketing team.
Email works when it feels like it's coming from a person who knows you. Not a broadcast from a brand trying to hold your attention. We write campaigns that respect the relationship your subscribers gave you. Relevant content, a consistent voice, and a frequency that's earned by the quality of what you're sending.
The list you already have is almost always worth more than you think. Cleaning it up, rebuilding the segmentation, and shifting from volume to intent usually produces better results within 60 to 90 days, before we've even built any new campaigns.
You'll have a dedicated email strategist who knows your platform, your list, and your audience. Every email we write is in your brand voice, not a generic template that could belong to any company in your industry. We handle the setup, the segmentation, the automations, and the reporting. Each month we show you what moved and why. If something's underperforming, we say so and bring a fix, not a reason it wasn't our fault.

Why Sproutbox
What sets us apart.
We're not a big agency that treats you like a number. We're a Portland-based team that gets to know your business, stays consistent, and tells you the truth about what's working.
Your email list is one of your most valuable assets. We build campaigns that feel personal, not robotic.
Not everyone on your list is the same. We segment by behavior, not just demographics, so the right message reaches the right person.
Open rates are nice, but they don't pay the bills. We optimize for clicks that convert into sales.
Automated emails don't have to feel automated. We build sequences that nurture, engage, and move people toward a purchase, not feel like spam.
What email platforms do you work with?
We work with Klaviyo, Mailchimp, HubSpot, and most other major platforms. If you are on something we have not used before, we will learn it.
How many emails per month do you send?
It depends on your list size and goals. We don't send emails just to hit a frequency number. We would rather send four emails that people open than twelve that go straight to promotions.
Do you build automations?
Yes. Welcome series, abandoned cart, re-engagement, post-purchase, birthday flows. We map the automations that make sense for your business and build them in whatever platform you are on.
How do you measure email performance?
Open rate, click rate, and revenue attribution. We also track list health closely. Deliverability and unsubscribe rate matter more than most people realize, and both affect whether your emails land in the inbox at all.
Can you help grow our list?
Yes. We help clients build lead magnets, opt-in forms, and list growth strategies that attract subscribers who are actually interested in what you are selling, not just people chasing a freebie.
Do you write the email copy?
Yes. Our team writes the copy, designs the template, and sets up the send. You review and approve before anything goes to your list. If you prefer to write your own copy, we can handle strategy and production only.
What is a realistic open rate to aim for?
It depends on your industry and list quality. B2B lists typically see 25–40% open rates. B2C and retail run 15–25%. What matters more than the industry average is the trend — we want to see your rates improving over time.
Can you segment our list and personalize content?
Yes. Segmentation and personalization are core to how we approach email. Sending the same email to your entire list is usually leaving revenue on the table. We build segments based on behavior, purchase history, and engagement level.
Do you run A/B tests?
Yes. Subject lines, send times, CTAs, and content formats. We do not test for the sake of it — we test hypotheses that actually affect revenue. Results from one campaign feed into the next.
How do you handle deliverability issues?
We monitor deliverability metrics closely — bounce rate, spam complaints, sender reputation. If something is off, we diagnose it fast. Most deliverability issues come from list hygiene problems, which we catch early by cleaning lists on a regular cadence.
